As part of its Community Wildfire Safety Program, PG&E is implementing a Public Safety Power Shutoff program as an additional precautionary measure to help reduce the risk of wildfires. If gusty winds and dry conditions, combined with a heightened fire risk, threaten a portion of the electric system serving our community, it may be necessary for PG&E to turn off electricity in the interest of public safety.

While Public Safety Power Shutoffs are more likely to occur in high fire-risk areas, a shutoff could impact other areas as well and are likely to last multiple days. That's why it is important to prepare an emergency plan and kit in advance in the event your family is affected by a power shutoff--or any other emergency.

What to Expect

If a Public Safety Power Shutoff is needed due to extreme weather conditions, you can expect:

  • Early Warning Notifications - PG&E will aim to send customer alerts via phone, text, email and other means before shutting off power. Update and confirm your contact information with PG&E to receive important outage alerts at pge.com/mywildfirealerts.
  • Ongoing Updates - PG&E will provide ongoing updates through social media, local news outlets and their website.
  • Safety Inspections - After extreme weather has passed, PG&E will inspect the lines in affected areas before power is safely restored.
  • Power Restoration - Power outages could last multiple days depending on the severity of the weather and other factors. It is important that you and your family have an emergency preparedness plan in place.

Be Prepared
